Spring Kallah is KIO's last convention of the year and is when we welcome our newest members and say goodbye to our seniors. Younger members will follow a different track than their older counterparts as they learn about life in KIO. They will learn BBYO terminology, how to make friends, cheers, and more. Older members will reflect on an unforgettable BBYO experience, culminating in their lives on Saturday night. Even with concerns of losing the conventions integrity with it's combination with AIT/MIT, all will be done to ensure that Spring Convention remains important to both twelfth and eighth graders.
SPRING KALLAH 2020 RECAP!
This year, Spring Kallah was held north of Cincinnati, Ohio the weekend of March 6-8. KIO was back and better than ever, reuniting for the first time since Regionals. New members were welcomed with opened arms as the region headed into dinner and then services, led by our 66th regional Sh'lichim, Samantha and Daniel. The theme for the weekend was find your light, and services was the best way to kick off the weekend. After an exciting introduction from our amazing coordinators, Jace Dery and Sami Handmaker, it was time for the neon themed dance! With more excitement and hype at a dance than ever before, it was definitely one for the books!
Saturday was out of this world! As BBGs and AZAs came down to breakfast in their space-themed gear, everyone was so excited for the day to begin! We kicked off the day with services, with the help of special guest, Eric Hunker (who also helped out Friday night as well). He taught us a new song and got the region more excited for services! Eric wasn't the only guest we had for the weekend. After services, KIO has the option to into three rotations, each led by a guest speaker (Meir Kay, Eric Hunker, and AEPi). KIO loved hearing from speakers outside of our region, and each of them provided us with new knowledge that we didn't know before. Next came time for our amazing steering programs! Each with a unique theme (bonding, athletic, jewish), these programs were one of and kind and never seen before! After lunch, BBGs and AZAs were split into separate programs, led by our coordinators and admins. The catch was, if you were a new member, you had the opportunity to go to a new member program to learn even more about BBYO! KIO rejoined together to hear more from Meir Kay, who taught us more about being a leader! Shuk had brand new designs, including stickers, sweatpants, and more! After Chofesh and dinner, Samantha and Daniel led KIO into a new and innovative Havdalah which concluded with a song session! Our 66th regional board led memorable separates for both AZA and BBG and then we transitioned into lives! Saying goodbye to all of the amazing seniors wasn't easy, and their impact on KIO will never be forgotten.
After losing an hour of sleep Sunday morning (thanks daylight savings time!!), BBGs and AZAs were ready to make their last memories together. We concluded lives in the morning and moved into business meetings, where we passed our new Standup Cause, Environmental Awareness for the 2020 year! After cheers and friendship circle, it was time to say goodbye to an amazing weekend! We can't wait to see everyone in the fall!! BIG shoutout to Sami Handmaker, Jace Dery, Liz Hemmer, and Sam Lichten for leading an amazing and unforgettable convention!!
